AI video or image ads: choose by information
Choose video when the change over time adds useful information. Choose an image when a stable view carries the message clearly. Neither format has an automatic performance advantage for your product; an actual campaign needs its own comparison.
Use the same product for the decision
This hypothetical example concerns a notebook with an elastic closure and a patterned cover. The merchant has photographed both details. The destination is the same product page in each concept, so the format decision does not quietly change the offer.
| Message | Static approach | Motion approach | Useful question |
|---|---|---|---|
| See the cover pattern | Sharp front photograph | Small tilt with a stable front view | Does the movement reveal anything beyond the photo? |
| Understand the closure | Closed notebook with elastic visible | Hand moves elastic across the cover | Does the action clarify how it closes? |
| Read fine printed detail | Actual close-up with clear text | Generated close-up with text to verify | Which output preserves the essential lettering? |
| Show desk context | Composed desk still | Notebook placed beside a pen | Is the placement the point of the message? |
For the closure message, motion has a concrete job: show the before and after. For the cover pattern, a simple photograph may be sufficient. Adding a moving camera does not automatically make the pattern easier to judge.
Plan the smallest meaningful movement
A proposed video starts with the cover closed and elastic resting beside it. One hand places the elastic across the cover. The ending holds still. Avoid adding a page flip unless the page layout is also part of the message and supported by references.
The silent storyboard guide helps that transition read without speech. The detail-shot guide helps keep the elastic large enough in the frame.
Review costs and production risks
Fairytale's Guided ad makes paid Seedance 2.5 videos. Its Generate quote includes the chosen duration, resolution and any missing reference sheets prepared from uploads. Do not assume a short clip is free or that a higher resolution will repair an inaccurate mechanism.
A static original product photograph and a generated video also have different review needs. The video requires checking each important state, hand contact and any spoken words. The still needs its own checks for crop, legibility, accurate product and destination match.
Keep a format test interpretable
If you later compare formats in a campaign, preserve the message, product variant and destination where possible. Record deliberate differences such as speech or an additional mechanism view. Otherwise, the result may compare two concepts rather than format alone. Use creative testing to choose the outcome and comparison conditions before drawing conclusions.
