Product photos for AI ads: an input checklist
Choose reference photographs by purpose. Each selected image should answer a question about the product the video must preserve. Begin with the action you want to show, then check that the sources establish its important states.
An input audit for a hypothetical bottle
The intended ad lifts a closed bottle by its attached loop and returns it upright. The merchant has supplied a front photograph, a shallow side view and a label crop.
| Required information | Source to select | Check at full size |
|---|---|---|
| Whole object | Front hero | Cap, base and complete silhouette remain inside the image |
| Loop attachment | Shallow side view | The attachment is visible rather than hidden by the bottle |
| Identity | Original label close-up | Logo and relevant lettering are sharp |
| Starting and ending state | Closed-cap views | All photographs show the same cap and variant |
The action does not need a rear view if the camera never turns there. If you change the concept to a full rotation or a cap opening, the checklist changes too. Obtain the additional views before asking the model to invent them.
Review the source quality
- Open original files rather than selecting from small thumbnails.
- Check the edge against the background: translucent edges, dark caps and fine loops should remain discernible.
- Look for glare crossing the identifying detail.
- Check whether a hand or styling prop hides a part the action needs.
- Confirm that sources show current packaging and the exact same variant.
- Keep the merchant's measurements and product facts beside the files; do not infer them from a crop.
More photographs are useful when they add information. Nearly identical images with different color casts can make the reference set ambiguous. Choose a clear authority for the whole product and an original detail source for small identifying features.
Record what is missing
Write a short gap note: “Rear label not supplied; no rear view in this ad. Capacity unknown; no capacity line.” This is a creative constraint, not a reason to make the first project complicated. The existing-folder audit helps find useful files before requesting a new shoot.
Prepare and inspect the generated reference
In fairytale, upload the selected product photos in the Guided ad. The reference enters the ad immediately. Its missing product sheet is drawn at video generation when needed, and that drawing appears in the Generate quote. The sheet follows the standard product layout rather than a custom collage.
Keep the originals for comparison with the finished video. The bottle reference walkthrough explains hero, detail and sheet roles. Use detail-shot planning when the main action depends on a small feature staying visible.
